Graham Coxon’s ‘telepathic’ connection

Graham Coxon has a "telepathic" connection with Damon Albarn.

The Blur guitarist believes the pair have developed a unique way to collaborate thanks to their awareness of each other through years of making music together.

He said: "I think Damon has this great knack of saying, in very few words, what I realise I’m sort of feeling as well.

"I think I’ve just developed a telepathic way of backing him on the guitar. It’s just what’s happened over the years."

The ‘Song 2’ hitmakers took to the stage at a West London club for an intimate performance of tracks from their upcoming album ‘The Magic Whip’, their first since 2003’s ‘Think Tank’.

Speaking about the new LP to Beats by Dr. Dre before their headline show, Graham said: "We were in Hong Kong. We didn’t even know we were going to record. We had pressure from people, fans etcetera, to do it so we just thought, ‘Well, we’ll do it without telling anyone. It’ll take the pressure off.’

"But then we had this super idea to find a studio and go in there and see what happens. We didn’t really know what to expect; we just did it. We’ve been playing with each other quite a lot since 2009; we’re quite used to each other again and it just seemed like a kind of obvious thing to do.

"It’s an interesting record because there are going to be familiar moments like ‘Lonesome Street’ and maybe ‘I Broadcast’ and these sort of songs people will be very familiar with… There’s really unfamiliar territory (too)… I wanted it to be inspiring to the others."
