Aidan Turner wants weighty role after Poldark

Aidan Turner wants to "put on loads of weight" for his next role.

The 31-year-old actor has gained thousands of female fans since starring as hunky hero Ross Poldark in BBC series ‘Poldark’ – a new adaptation of the ‘The Poldark Novels’ by Winston Graham set in late 18th Century Cornwall.

Turner admits he hit the gym hard in preparation for the role because he knew he had to appear bare-chested in some scenes, but he now intends to ease up on his fitness regime and enjoy some calorific treats.

Asked about his impressive-looking figure, he said: "I need to (work out) for some jobs. I just didn’t see Poldark having a beer belly or being out of shape, given his lifestyle."

Discussing his plan to ditch the gym, Aidan intends to find a role which requires him to "grow a beard and put on loads of weight".

Aidan has found his new sex symbol status quite amusing but he intends to enjoy it because knows his good looks will only last for so long.

In an interview with The Sunday Times newspaper, he quipped: "I’m not going to look like that for ever. So, damn it, I’m 31, I’m going to live it up!"

Aidan – who previously starred in ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ – has also refuted suggestions he appears half-naked in almost every episode as a means of attracting female viewers.

He said: "It’s certainly not gratuitous. There’s a couple of bedroom scenes where you’d expect that sort of thing to happen."
