Greg Nicotero says The Walking Dead follows the ‘perfect’ template

Greg Nicotero thinks ‘The Walking Dead’ follows the perfect template for a TV show.

The 52-year-old executive producer of the horror drama series thinks the format of the show makes for great story-telling and an ever-evolving plot.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, Greg said: "From ‘The Walking Dead’, you’re not just dealing with a two-hour movie.

"This isn’t a movie where we’d have to wrap up meeting the characters, going on this journey and wrapping it up in a two-hour time period.

"The reason why the Walking Dead fits so perfectly into this TV model is we have an ongoing saga that we continue to evolve and change … when you watch a movie, you’re only able to really scratch the surface of who these people are. So I really believe that’s why the ‘Walking Dead’ resonates.

"We have hours and hours in which to create these characters."

Greg also said there are strong similarities with some of the most popular TV series from yesteryear.

He explained: "If you go back in history and look at other TV shows, like ‘Star Trek’ and ‘The X-Files’, those shows succeed because you’re able to get into multiple stories that these people go on and identify with different characters."

‘The Walking Dead’ finale premieres tonight (30.03.15) at 9pm on FOX.
