Jeremy Clarkson’s Top Gear contract will not be renewed

Jeremy Clarkson has been sacked by the BBC.

The ‘Top Gear’ presenter was suspended from the show earlier this month after he was involved in a "fracas" with producer Oisin Tymon over a "catering issue" and the BBC are now reported to have completed their internal investigation with director general Tony Hall concluding that he has "little alternative" than to end his career on the show.

The inquiry – which was led by BBC Scotland boss Ken MacQuarrie – found that Clarkson had engaged Tymon in a 30-second physical assault after a 20-minute verbal tirade.

Hall has previously stood by the controversial presenter – who along with co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May attracts huge audiences on ‘Top Gear’ – but is said to feel as though he has no other choice than to not renew Clarkson’s contract when his current one runs out at the end of the month.

A source close to the inquiry is reported by the Guardian newspaper as saying: "There can’t be one rule for talent and one rule for ordinary human beings."

The BBC will continue to make ‘Top Gear’, however, but it is so far unclear who will replace Clarkson and whether Hammond and May will decide to stay on the show without their colleague of over a decade.

BBC Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans was reportedly in the running for the job but he’s now shot down the rumours as "nonsense".

He said on his ‘The Chris Evans Breakfast Show’ earlier today (25.03.15): "This is not true. Not only is it not true – it’s absolute nonsense."

Although the BBC are expected to announce their decision not to renew Clarkson’s contract later today (25.03.15), a spokesman has said: "No decision has been made. When we have an outcome, we will announce it."
