Royals cast want Meryl Streep to play fairy godmother

Alexandra Park wants Meryl Streep to play her fairy godmother on ‘The Royals’.

The brunette beauty – who stars as Princess Eleanor opposite Elizabeth Hurley, William Moseley and Merritt Patterson on the new E! series – admitted she would love the 65-year-old actress to join the cast as her magical helper.

When asked if there was anyone they would like to join them on the show, the cast all agreed the Academy Award-winner was the obvious choice.

William exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Meryl Streep!"

Merritt agreed: "Streep! Alex and I both go there. If you’re going to go big go to the top. She’d have to play like the king’s mother."

After William pointed out that "the king’s already got a mother on the show", Alex offered a solution, adding: "[She could be] the fairy godmother."

The cast also confessed they have their eyes on a British actor to take on a starring role and have considered asking their co-star Elizabeth, 49 – who plays Queen Helena – to enquire whether her former flame Hugh Grant, whom she dated from 1987 to 2000, would be up for a part.

Alex explained: "I reckon Hugh Grant would be good. He’d be a good Uncle Hugh.

"He’d be really good. Maybe we could talk to Elizabeth and get that to happen. Maybe not. But it’s a dream. It would be a hoot."

William added it has been "awesome" working alongside Elizabeth, whom he describes as both "professional" and "supportive".

He said: "She’s great. She’s very professional. She’s on time. She hits her mark. She’s very supportive of all of us. She likes a joke. She’s awesome."

‘The Royals’ starts tonight (25.03.15) at 9pm on E!
