Marvin Gaye’s family seek Blurred Lines sales halt

Marvin Gaye’s family want to stop sales of ‘Blurred Lines’.

The Motown star’s children Frankie and Nona successfully won a lawsuit on Tuesday (10.03.15) claiming Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke plagiarised their father’s 1977 hit ‘Got To Give It Up’, and now they are fighting for the the track to be taken off sale until they have decided how future profits from the song will be split.

The Gaye family attorney Richard Busch told Rolling Stone magazine: "We’ll be asking the court to enter an injunction prohibiting the further sale and distribution of ‘Blurred Lines’ unless and until we can reach an agreement with those guys on the other side about how future monies that are received will be shared.

"We’ll be doing that in about a week or so."

The Los Angeles jury has ordered the musicians to pay $7.3 million (£4.84 million) to the late singer’s family for copyright infringement, despite both Pharrell and Robin insisting they are innocent.

During the week-long trial, Pharrell said: "[Marvin Gaye] is one of the ones we look up to so much. This is the last place I want to be right now. The last thing you want to do as a creator is take something of someone else’s when you love him."

The chart-topping track is believed to have sold almost 15 million copies since it was released in 2013, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.
