Michelle Keegan thanks Coronation Street

Michelle Keegan has thanked ‘Coronation Street’ for making her a better actress.

The brunette beauty departed her six-year role as Tina McIntyre in a dramatic storyline last year, which saw her character murdered by Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) and has thanked the ITV soap for making her "mature" as an actress.

She said: "’Corrie’ made me a better actress, it was an amazing platform.

"You go in day in, day out for 12 hours and I had amazing storylines in ‘Coronation Street’ so I do think it gave me the experience to go on and do other things."

The 27-year-old actress – who is engaged to former ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star Mark Wright – is set to appear in BBC One drama ‘Ordinary Lies’ as Tracy, whose boyfriend enlists her help to smuggle drugs back into the UK.

Speaking about the role, she added: "I got a few scripts but this was the one that I really wanted.

"I left the audition and I said to myself that I had to get that part, I fell in love with it."

And Michelle has admitted she relates to her character in the BBC One show and thinks she is a little more "glamourous" than her previous role.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "The wardrobe situation? I’d say Tracy is a little bit more glamorous than Tina, just a little bit.

"I can relate to her, she’s a normal girl, she’s in a job that just gets her by, it pays for the clothes and her make-up.

"She just wants a better life and that’s what gets her in trouble. She ends up in a very extreme situation and what you see is that it starts out as a holiday, everything’s fine and she’s having a great trip with her mates. Then it turns really sinister."
