Spotify tip Ed Sheeran and Ella Henderson for BRITs success

Spotify have predicted BRIT Awards success for Ed Sheeran and Ella Henderson.

The streaming platform has tipped the musicians for success in the British Male and British Female categories based on the amount of streams they have amassed in the past 12 months compared to their competitors.

Ed, 24, has racked up 1.7 billion streams on Spotify, which is more than double his nearest competitor, Sam Smith, who has achieved 800 million streams for the tracks from his debut album ‘In the Lonely Hour’, while Ella has 100 million streams for her debut single ‘Ghost’ alone.

Elsewhere, Coldplay, who are the most streamed band on Spotify globally, are set to beat off competition from One Direction, Alt J, Royal Blood and Clean Bandit.

In the other categories, Spotify’s data suggests there will be wins for Sam Smith in the British Breakthrough category, John Legend for International Male, Beyonce for International Female, and 5 Seconds of Summer for International Group.

Meanwhile, the data suggests Clean Bandit’s Grammy-winning track ‘Rather Be’ featuring Jess Glynne could scoop the British Single accolade after receiving 294 million streams, closely follows by Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’ with 253 million streams, Calvin Harris’ ‘Summer’ with 252 million streams, and Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’, which has received 224 million plays.
