Siobhan Finneran lands Doctor Who role

Siobhan Finneran has landed a role in ‘Doctor Who’.
The 52-year-old actress – who first made her breakthrough in 1987 movie ‘Rita, Sue and Bob Too’ – will make a guest appearance in the upcoming series of the BBC’s sci-fi show, and bosses are looking to surprise fans with some famous faces in the upcoming run.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "Siobhan’s now one of telly’s best-loved drama stars and she’s joining a stellar line-up of guest stars on the new ‘Doctor Who’.
"The team behind the latest series are keen to give cameos to more household names because previous stars, including Peter Kay and James Corden, have proved very popular."
The former ‘Downton Abbey’ star will be one of a few big names to have cameo roles, including Alan Cumming and Lee Mack.
Comedian Lee opened up about his own guest appearance earlier this year, and admitted he "harassed" showrunner Chris Chibnall for a part in the show.
He previously said: "I am blink-and-you’ll-miss-it. It’s just a little thing. I’ve just been a fan all my life, so I just harassed them until they gave me a little part in it."
Lee went to great lengths to appear on the show, including sending Chris a video of him using his own TARDIS.
He added: "I even sent Chris, who runs the show, Chris Chibnall, a video of me getting out of my own TARDIS, which I own. With a Dalek, which I own as well. And I said ‘Come on!’
"It’s genuinely a true story – I’ve got a TARDIS at home, it’s not bigger on the inside. And I said ‘Come on, give me a part.’
"And he said ‘Alright!’ So that’s what you need to do if you want a part in something. Just send a video to someone, you’ll get the part."
The new series of ‘Doctor Who’ – which will see Jodie Whittaker debut as the first-ever female Time Lord – airs on BBC One on Sunday (07.10.18) at 6.45pm.
