Britain’s Duke of Edinburgh pleased by ale revival

Britain's Duke of Edinburgh is reportedly pleased that his favourite ale is going back on sale.
The 94-year-old royal is said to be thrilled that Carlsberg UK have decided to pay tribute to the Double Diamond ale after production of the original drink was ceased in the 1990s.
In a letter to the brewery, private secretary Brigadier Archie Miller-Bakewell wrote: "It was very nice of you to suggest that Prince Philip might like to try Dual Diamond beer ... May I suggest that you arrange for the beer to be sent to Buckingham Palace, informing us of the courier details and date of delivery and we will make the necessary arrangements from this end."
Prince Philip - who is married to Queen Elizabeth - was also sent a copy of a book of Double Diamond recipes.
Author Ian Webster told the Daily Express newspaper: "A finished copy of the book was sent to Prince Philip and I offered him some of the Dual Diamond as we've decided to do a limited number of bottles. Unsurprisingly, he said yes. It's not every day you get to buy royalty a beer."
Meanwhile, for Prince Philip's son, the Prince of Wales, alcohol plays an important part in the running of his car as it was previously revealed he uses ethanol made from surplus wine to power his Aston Martin.

Britain’s Princess Beatrice lands new job

Britain's Princess Beatrice has landed a job at a fashion investment company.
The eldest daughter of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson is said to have been offered a prestigious job at the New York-based company following her successful finance course at a San Francisco university, the Daily Mail newspaper reports.
Meanwhile, Duchess Sarah previously revealed her daughter is much more "financially savvy" than she is.
She said: "She's doing very well. She's very financially savvy, unlike her mother ... We have a great time in New York. We'll probably go somewhere downtown. We love going out downtown."
And 27-year-old Princess Beatrice is known for her love of exotic holidays, having most recently spent New Year's Eve in St. Barts.
When questioned how she may get the money to travel so much, one source said: "Let's face it, it doesn't do Virgin any harm that the company gets a mention every time Bea appears on Dave's [Clark; her boyfriend who works for Virgin Galactic] arm."
Whilst another added: "Her father buys a business-class ticket on British Airways, but they always bump her up to first."

Britain’s Prince Harry to watch UK trials for Invictus Games

Britain's Prince Harry will attend trials for the Invictus Games.
The 31-year-old royal is set to make an appearance on the first day of the trials for the UK team at the University of Bath's Sports Training Village, which takes place between Friday and Sunday.
A Team Bath spokesperson told the Bath Chronicle newspaper: "It's great for us to have Prince Harry coming and watching some of the competition.
"And it's great that we have a top class sports training village that can host those kind of events. We are really excited about having them all up there."
Meanwhile, Prince Harry - who founded the Paralympic-style sporting event for wounded soldiers in 2014 - previously spoke of his excitement at launching the second year of the Games.
He shared: "As I've continued to work with wounded servicemen and women, I regularly see the power of the soldiers' stories to inspire others.
"For every competitor last September, there are hundreds of others around the world who would benefit from having the same opportunity. I wanted other cities and countries to look at the competition - what it meant to those taking part and those who saw it - and take up the challenge for the next Invictus Games."

Pippa Middleton designs one-of-a-kind dress

Pippa Middleton's sold out dress is to be auctioned off for charity.
The 32-year-old socialite - who is the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge - is auctioning a dress and scarf, which she designed last year in partnership with luxury fashion brand Tabitha Webb, in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) ahead of its Roll out the Red fundraising ball.
The Saturdays' Mollie King, who hosted last year's event, said: "I was honoured to be host last year's Roll out the Red Ball in aid of the British Heart Foundation. It is such a fantastic charity which is very close to my heart as my grandfather sadly died of heart disease.
"The BHF has already made vital discoveries through research in the prevention and treatment of heart and circulatory conditions but there is still so much work to be done."
The online auction will close at midnight on Thursday February 11, with the money raised helping to fund research into heart and circulatory disease.
Don't miss out on your chance to bid, by visiting www.rolloutauction.com to see a full list of auction prizes.
Tickets are still available for this year's Roll out the Red fundraising ball, which takes place on February 11.

Britain’s Duchess of Cornwall moved to tears by mother of domestic abuse victim

Britain's Duchess of Cornwall was moved to tears when she spoke with the mother of a domestic abuse victim.
The 68-year-old royal met with Diana Parkes, the mother of the late Joanna Brown, who was killed by her estranged husband Robert Brown, at an event she attended at the London-based headquarters of domestic abuse charity SafeLives.
Speaking to guests at the event, Duchess Camilla said: "It's so important that people like yourselves speak up otherwise we gloss over it. And this is too important an issue to ignore. Stories like this just have to be aired otherwise domestic abuse becomes a taboo subject.
"I want to do anything I can to help raise this issue. All of you going around and talking about it does create awareness."
Throughout the day, attendees heard from victims of domestic abuse including Rachel Williams, who was shot by her estranged husband when she tried to leave him following nearly two decades of abuse.
Of her terrible experience, which happened in 2011, she said: "He put the gun down to reload. I grabbed the gun, a supernatural strength enabled me to hold onto the gun. This watch with the face now frosted is the result of a battle as we fought for control of the gun, as my wrist was dragged in every direction over the floor."

Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge want ‘freedom’ for son

Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge want their son to enjoy his "freedom".
The royal couple - who wed in 2011 - fully appreciate their son, who is third in line to the throne, won't be able to afford the luxury of time away from the spotlight in the future and so want him to make the most of it now.
A source told Bella magazine: "Montessori focuses on social development and independence as well as education. Children are encouraged to choose whatever activity suits them, and then the teacher is there to be a guide. As George gets older there will be constraints in his life, so this is a great start where he will get independence and freedom.
"He needs to have as much freedom as possible for as long as possible. This method of education gives a child a strong sense of what they like and dislike, which should give him the confidence he'll need as our future monarch."
Meanwhile, the two-year-old Prince is learning how to make his own decisions whilst at Westacre Montessori School.
Louise Livingston, director of training at the Maria Montessori Institute, which provides training to the majority of teachers at the school, said: "There is a lot of focus on independence and helping children do things for themselves and make their own decisions and their own choices. They will be encouraging him - right from the minute he walks across the doorstep - to do things for himself."

Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge to join RAF Air Cadets celebration

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge will join the 75th birthday celebrations of the RAF Air Cadets.
The 34-year-old royal - who is the Air Commodore-in-Chief after being handed the honour by her grandfather-in-law, the Duke of Edinburgh - is set to make an appearance on February 7 to pay tribute to the organisation's successes.
To mark the occasion, Duchess Catherine will attend a service at St Clement Danes church on the Strand, which has RAF links, before joining guests at a reception at the nearby Royal Courts of Justice.
Meanwhile, Prince Philip was previously praised for his outstanding 63 years of service to the Air Cadets as Air Commodore-in-Chief by Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty.
She said at the time of his departure: "We will be forever grateful to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh for his outstanding commitment to the Air Training Corps over the decades. He is admired and respected by cadets and volunteers alike and we will miss his ready sense of humour and genuine interest in the development of the nation's youth.
"Her links to the RAF family are already well-established and her desire to support youth development is well recognised around the world."

Penny Lancaster remembers royal dining disaster

Penny Lancaster made an "embarrassing" mistake in front of Britain's Prince Charles.
The 44-year-old model was attending a dinner with her husband Rod Stewart in honour of The Princes' Trust and had the pleasure of sitting next to the 67-year-old royal during the meal, only for a slip up during the fish course make her "apologise profusely" to the heir to the throne.
She told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Rod and I are patrons of The Prince's Trust. They bring the food on a silver platter and you have to serve yourself from over the shoulder of the person next to you.
"Prince Charles was talking to me and I didn't want to divert my eyes while I was reaching for this food, and my fish dropped on the table between my plate and his!
"I was horrified and apologised profusely, but he just said 'I do it all the time' and helped me clear it up."
Meanwhile, it appears the Prince enjoyed the night with his dining companion as the Duchess of Cornwall previously told Penny that he liked sitting next to her.
During a chance meeting, Duchess Camilla quipped to the model: "Yes he told me [you had dinner together] and said what a really lovely evening it had been, particularly sitting next to you."

Britain’s Prince Harry boosts morale for amputee rowers

Britain's Prince Harry made a surprise phone call to a team of amputee rowers.
The sportsmen were forced to take a break because of the storms but were given a boost by the 31-year-old royal as they continued on their 3,000 mile journey across the Atlantic.
A source told PEOPLE magazine: "He heard about the storm and wanted to check in and give them a bit of a boost and some support."
Whilst a spokesperson for Row2Recovery added: "It gave them a real boost. It was a surprise phone call - they had no idea. He asked them about the storm and wished them well for the rest of the journey.
"They have been in good spirits throughout, which is a testament to their determination."
Despite dealing with their own tough trek, the group of rowers took time to pay tribute to the Prince's friend Henry Worsley, who tragically died after falling ill during his Antartica trek.
Taking to their Facebook site, they wrote: "Our team of @leglessrowers would like to dedicate their update today to Lt Col Henry Worsley, who sadly passed away yesterday after his solo trek across Antartica.
"Henry was raising funds for the Endeavour Fund to help injured servicemen and women, of which our wounded team are beneficiaries of and also raising funds for. A committed man, selfless veteran and true hero, to Henry."
