Rosie O’Donnell ‘will participate’ in welcoming daughter Chelsea’s first child

Rosie O’Donnell "will definitely be participating" in welcoming her granddaughter into the world when her daughter Chelsea gives birth.
The 56-year-old comedian has been estranged from her 21-year-old daughter – whom she has with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter-O’Donnell, who she was married to from 2004 to 2007 – for several years, but says she’s now working on rebuilding their relationship, including making sure she’s around to "celebrate" the impending arrival of her granddaughter.
Rosie told People magazine: "We’re on good, communicative terms now, and everybody is pulling for her. [The baby is due] after the holidays. [I] will definitely be participating in the whole celebrating event."
The former ‘The View’ co-host – who also has Parker, 23, Blake, 18, and Vivienne, 15, with Kelli, as well as five-year-old daughter Dakota with her late ex-wife Michelle Rounds – revealed last month that she was working toward having a proper relationship with Chelsea.
She said at the time: "I think with my relationship with my daughter, Chelsea, it really has [been tested] because we went through some really public troubled times and, you know, she’s doing better now and we’re both communicating with each other.
"But when somebody does something unforgivable to you and you can forgive them and they can forgive you, there’s a kind of grace that descends upon the both of you, within that."
Rosie’s determination to be there for her daughter comes after she recently revealed she is due to marry her girlfriend Elizabeth Rooney.
The ‘Tarzan’ star and the policewoman went public with their relationship in November 2017, and although they’re now engaged, Rosie says they will wed "a long time in the future".
She said: "This is a long time in the future. We both decided that that would be best."
