Marilyn doubts new single will be played on radio

Marilyn doubts his new single will be played on mainstream radio stations.
The androgynous 53-year-old British singer – whose real name is Peter Robinson – shot to fame in the 1980s alongside Culture Club frontman Boy George with his debut single ‘Calling Your Name’ becoming a hit around the world.
However, he doesn’t think his comeback song ‘Love or Money’ will get airplay because it’s not Justin Bieber or Rihanna.
He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "It will be good If the radio play it. If you are not Rihanna or Justin Bieber it’s hard."
The song came about when Marilyn was working on his own music and the ‘Karma Chameleon’ hitmaker gave him some suggestions on how to improve.
However, Marilyn said instead of trying to tell him what to do they should just start their own project.
He explained: "I was working on another project, a different album and I was playing it to George as I was going along and he was getting really excited and going I love really love this.
"But he was like, ‘Why don’t you do this?’ I was like, ‘I’m doing this. And it got to the point where I was like instead of telling let’s do it. Let’s do our own project. "
The pair now have several tracks in the making for a joint album.
He said: "We’ve got seven songs. But they are all in different stages of completion."
On working with the 55-year-old singer on the reggae-inspired track, he said: "It was the first song George and I wrote/recorded together in the studio, earlier this year.
"It came about so organically and it was George who suggested going back to my roots, sonically – taking inspiration from the rhythms of the islands that sound tracked my childhood.
"I was born in Jamaica, spent the early years of my life there, I have duel English/Jamaican citizenship.
"Reggae has been a huge influence, but I’d never thought to incorporate it in to my own music before."
And while the song might not make it onto the radio, Marilyn was "deeply moved" by the feedback he’s been receiving from his fans.
At the time, he wrote on Twitter: "I’m stunned by the response to my song…I had no idea there was so much love out there for me…deeply moved (sic)."
Marilyn has only released one album before, 1985’s ‘Despite Straight Lines’.
Most recently he dropped singles ‘Sooner or Later’ and ‘Spirit in the Sky’ in 2003 and ‘Hold on Tight’ in 2002.
‘Love or Money’ is out now.
