Ed Sheeran up for third BMI London Song of The Year gong

Ed Sheeran has been nominated for Song of the Year at the BMI London Awards for the third consecutive year.
The 27-year-old star’s global hit ‘Shape of You’ will go up against James Arthur’s ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’, Zedd and Alessia Cara ‘Stay’, Kygo and Selena Gomez ‘It Ain’t Me’ and The Weeknd and Daft Punk’s ‘I Feel It Coming’ for the coveted prize at the annual ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel in the British capital on Monday (01.10.18).
The award recognises the most played song of 2017 on radio and television in the US.
And if the ‘Perfect’ hitmaker takes home the gong on the night, he will be adding the BMI statuette to his 2017 prize for Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ and his 2016 Song of the Year-winning single ‘Thinking Out Loud’.
The world’s top songwriters will come together at the star-studded bash next week, which will also see Liam Payne honoured for his debut solo single ‘Strip That Down’ featuring Quavo.
Natasha Bedingfield is also set to be recognised for her hit song ‘Unwritten’, Tinie Tempah for publishing Drake’s ‘Passionfruit’ and Right Said Fred for their credit on Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, which has the same rhythm pattern as their 90s chart-topper ‘I’m Too Sexy’.
Last year’s ceremony saw Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay honoured with the BMI President’s Award.

The 2018 shortlist is as follows:

Song of the Year:
‘Shape of You’ – Ed Sheeran
‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ – James Arthur
